We cannot stress enough that you must take time to prepare your property for the photographer so that it looks amazing. After all, the camera can only take photos of what is there.

So what steps can you take to prepare your property?

We have collated 6 pro tips to ensure that you make the most of your photo shoot:

General Housekeeping – Clean any reflective surfaces such as windows, mirrors and glass tables.  Iron the bed linen and make the beds properly, adding cushions and throws for decorative effect. Dust and clean the whole property so that it is immaculate. Remove bins and other pet items like litter trays.

Proper placement of furniture – When taking photos our photographers often crouch down in the door to capture the entire room. Make sure that there are no large items of furniture that may obscure this view.  If you move larger pieces of furniture like tables, beds and sofas to the back of the room (away from the door) then this creates an optical illusion of more space.

Enhance the natural lighting by opening all of the curtains and blinds to ensure that the rooms are well lit.

Think Minimal – The rooms in your property will look better if you take time to de-clutter the area. Remove anything that is taking up extra space on any and all surfaces, such as bottles, personal pictures, magazines and other everyday items.  People want to imagine that the home could be theirs, so remove any personal objects like mobile phones, images of family or excessive ornaments. Additionally it is a good idea to remove any extra furniture or accessories that are taking up space.

Fruit and Flowers – To keep the property feeling homely you can add in some nice details like a bowl of fresh fruit, candles or a vase of flowers that are neutral (but appealing to the eye) and could belong to any home.

Think of the View – Imagine that you are seeing your home for the first time. Take a look out of the window and see it fresh. Make sure the windows are clear and in good repair. Also check for garden clutter that could be removed or tidied up prior to the photographer arriving.

Now your home should be looking good as new and is now ready for the photographer to arrive and do their best work. You can relax in the knowledge that you have done the best you can to make your property stand out and look its best.
